PORTALND — A Southeast Portland fabric store with a cult following announced Thursday night it would close its doors after 26 years.“Dear Friends and Loyal Customers,” Fabric Depot said in a Facebook post. “After 26 years in business, we are sad to announce that Fabric Depot is shutting its doors, Sunday, Oct. 21 at 5:00 p.m.”The 40,000 square foot fabric store on Southeast 122nd Avenue is popular with quilters and sewers, and sad patrons took to Facebook to express their disappointment in the store closing.“Very sad news indeed,” wrote Jennifer Brand. “I’d drive from the west side to get to the best fabric store in the Portland metro region. The fabric arts community will feel this one for sure!”Others simply wrote, “Nooooo.”The Facebook post had over 2,000 comments and over 4,000 shares by Friday morning.According to the post, everything in the store will be 40 percent off until Fabric Depot closes for good on Sunday. The store is located at 700 SE 122nd Ave. in Portland. “We are profoundly saddened by the necessary decision to close Fabric Depot — our family business that has been beloved by so many in the sewing community over the past 26 years,” reads a statement attributed to “The Fabric Depot family,” sent out Friday afternoon.
